Art has always been a part of my life. My father was an artist and my very first art teacher. As a child I remember quietly standing behind him watching intently as he created awesome works of art at his easel. His studio door was always open and he never seemed to mind my constant litany of questions of the whys and how’s of what he was doing as he painted. Through my life my father continued to encourage my artistic interest by introducing me to all of the art mediums—charcoal, pencil, oils, acrylics & pastels. He also taught me the art “rules”. Background to foreground…left to right…top to bottom. Through the years I have continued my education in the arts, taking many workshops with the well known decorative artist Ros Stallcup. I am inspired by many other decorative artists such as Ginger Edwards and my all time favorite Rebecca Baer.
It wasn’t until my children were born that I used my artistic gifts to make a living. After taking my first decorative art workshop I fell in love with the technique. I coupled my love for home decorating with my love for painting by using furniture and walls as my palette. As my business and children grew I started painting large wall murals. Continuing with my love for home decorating I have slowly evolved into adding home décor items and glassware to my list of canvases.
I enjoy making my art functional. I comb flea markets, vintage shops & garage sales looking for that special piece to recreate. I love to reproduce antique decorative painting techniques from past periods. The antique finish is one of my favorites and continues to be very popular. Shabby chic is also a big hit these days which I like to incorporate into my designs. All my art is also largely influenced by my love for nature. The changing of the New England seasons with its brilliant colors of spring, summer, and especially fall are also great inspirations for me. And with the coming of the spring and summer seasons which are my favorite time of the year I love to paint colorful butterflies and dragonflies.
The continued success of my business and the encouragement of my wonderful and supportive husband has allowed me to build my dream studio. This is where I spend my days and sometimes evenings painting, creating and teaching.
Thank you so much for sharing my love of the decorative arts with me. God has blessed me with a wonderful gift and He commands that I share it with others and that is what I plan on doing for years to come.
I dedicate this website to the memory of my Dad. I love you and I miss you.
